Ezra Taft Benson was the Secretary of Agriculture from 1953-1961 under President Dwight D. Eisenhower. He did not believe in the system of government price supports and aid to farmers. Nonetheless, in his appointed position, he was in charge of administering the program that he said amounted to Socialism.

In a devotional address at Brigham Young University in 1968, titled “Our Immediate Responsibility,” Ezra Taft Benson warned of America’s gradual progression from Socialism to Communism. In the speech, he spoke of a meeting that Eisenhower forced him to have with Russian president Nikita Kruschev. You can listen to that speech, below:

Political Republican Opinion Quote of the Day: “Nothing is more common than for a free people, in times of heat and violence, to gratify momentary passions by letting into the government, principles and precedents which afterward prove fatal to themselves.” – Alexander Hamilton
