For a change, I really don’t have much to write here. Yesterday, Mitt Romney continued his march of inevitability toward the G.O.P. presidential nomination with decisive victories in Wisconsin, Maryland and the District of Columbia. The victory speech he gave in Wisconsin afterwards could not lay out the difference between a country led by Mitt Romney and the one we are currently experiencing under the failed leadership of Barack Obama. While the mainstream liberal media continues to ridicule Rick Santorum for being a man of faith, they give a pass to Barack Obama. Not only did they brush aside Obama’s decades of worship in the church of Rev. Jeremiah Wright, but they let him freely quote from the bible and think nothing of it. During a campaign stump speech taxpayer-funded “official presidential visit” at the National Prayer Breakfast earlier this month, Barack Obama, trying to both prove what a devout Christian he is and justify taxing the wealthy, quoted from the Book of Luke, saying it “coincides with Jesus’ teaching that for unto whom much is given, much shall be required.” It seems like Barack Obama has it backwards. During the Democratic Primary in 2008, Charles Gibson asked Barack Obama the only difficult question I think he was asked that whole year. The Democratic presidential hopeful did not have an answer then, he did not have an answer for it during the subsequent presidential debate with John McCain and he still does not have an answer. The question dealt with capitol gains taxes and how he could justify raising them. Not only did Charles Gibson point out that, historically, every time capital gains taxes have been raised, tax revenues to the federal government have decreased and that, conversely, every time they have been lowered, government tax revenues have increased, Mr. Gibson also pointed out that raising capital gains taxes would severely harm 100 million people in this country who own stocks or who have 401K’s that they depend on for their retirement income. We all know the story of Robin Hood. Or, at least many people think they do. They sum the story up in one simplistic line: “He robbed from the rich and gave to the poor.” It is those same simple-minded people who think the current elected government has plans to do just that. They applaud Barack Obama and their other newly elected Liberal-minded government officials who have plans to increase the taxes the evil “wealthy” people pay and give that money to the poor, starving people who, through no fault of their own, have not been able to eek out a living for themselves. Unfortunately, that simple line from the tale of Robin Hood does not do the story justice, nor does it at all depict what is happening in our states and on the national level. Although the subject came up here and there during the presidential race, it was largely dismissed by the media and The Political Republican Opinion blog as a far-fetched desperation play by Obama haters. I mean, I didn’t want the guy elected any more than the next Republican, but I was hardly willing to start grasping at straws. Lately, however, there has been a growing movement to prove that Barack Obama is not a citizen. My, how times have changed. All one needs to do is look at the history of the Thanksgiving holiday to see how twisted things have become here in the good ole’ USA. As we celebrate the Thanksgiving holiday, it is important to think about what the holiday really means. Our public education system offers one point of view, our churches and past government another and the writings of an early Pilgrim leader teaches an all-together different lesson. In an interview earlier this week, US House of Representatives member, Paul Broun, called President-elect Barack Obama a Marxist and likened him to Adolf Hitler. His words could not have been clearer: “It may sound a bit crazy and off base, but the thing is, he’s the one who proposed this national security force,” Broun told the AP in the Monday interview. “I’m just trying to bring attention to the fact that we may – may not, I hope not – but we may have a problem with that type of philosophy of radical socialism or Marxism.” Broun’s comments were in reference to a July speech by Barack Obama in which the President-elect called for “a civilian national security force that’s just as powerful, just as strong, just as well funded” as the US military. Ezra Taft Benson was the Secretary of Agriculture from 1953-1961 under President Dwight D. Eisenhower. He did not believe in the system of government price supports and aid to farmers. Nonetheless, in his appointed position, he was in charge of administering the program that he said amounted to Socialism. In a devotional address at Brigham Young University in 1968, titled “Our Immediate Responsibility,” Ezra Taft Benson warned of America’s gradual progression from Socialism to Communism. In the speech, he spoke of a meeting that Eisenhower forced him to have with Russian president Nikita Kruschev.
