Political Republican Opinion:
Lawrence O’Donnell, one of the idiots who writes for the Liberal rag, The Huffington Compost, posted an article today with a headline that trumpeted, “Colin Powell Is Ready To Endorse.” He asserts in the first paragraph of the article, “It now seems beyond doubt that Colin Powell will endorse Barack Obama and thereby hammer the final nail in the coffin of the Republican campaign to hold onto the White House.”
What does this genius writer use as a basis for his proclamation? He believes that Powell will have heard all he needs to hear after the third debate and that he “has made it clear that he has been thinking about an endorsement for a long time but wanted to hear more from the candidates before making his choice.” No source was cited for this nor have I been able to locate anything even close to that statement while searching the Internet. We’ll pretend that O’Donnell is right and that Colin Powell has made it so clear, that it’s invisible.
Next, Lawrence O’Donnell shows his brilliance by laying out his reasons why Colin Powell will choose Obama:
- “The recent ugliness of the McCain-Palin rally audiences cannot be lost on Colin Powell,” says O’Donnell. Really? Colin Powell is apparently already so biased toward Obama that he will choose to ignore the outlandish remarks that have been made by Obama supporters and, instead, choose only to focus on the handful of extremists amongst thousands at Republican rallies, according to the all-knowing writer.
- According to O’Donnell, “Powell is not one to ignore a 14 point lead in a New York Times poll.” So, what is the “journalist” trying to say here? Is he saying that Colin Powell is not smart enough to make up his own mind and that he prefers to ride on a bandwagon? I don’t think the former Secretary of State would like that insinuation.
- The Einstein writer saves his most (ahem) compelling argument for last, stating, “… most important for Powell and the press will be his explicit rejection of the Bush-McCain approach to Iraq, Iran and the rest of the world.” First of all, what does the press have to do with how Colin Powell thinks (unless he is implying that the second wing of the Obama campaign – the Liberal mainstream media – is so influential and pervasive, that Powell can’t possibly think for himself)? Secondly, which Colin Powell are you talking about? Is it the one who said in 2003, “The worst thing that can happen is to push this process too quickly before the capacity for government is there and the basis for legitimacy is there and see it fail.”? Or, is the Colin Powell who said in 2006 that he was not persuaded that an increase in US troops would reverse the situation in Iraq? Again, Lawrence O’Donnell doesn’t cite any supportive documentation for his claims on the “explicit rejection” of the “Bush-McCain” approach to the Middle East and the rest of the world, nor will you. Colin Powell would never be as simple-minded as those who lump McCain and Bush together as suggested by O’Donnell.
Once again, the Huffington Compost has outdone itself by over-promising in a headline and under-delivering in the content. One of these days, they may find a writer who actually can back up what he claims.
