Political Republican Opinion:

After losing the presidential election and witnessing their second consecutive landslide defeat in both houses of Congress, the Republican Party is scrambling. Despite claims that the mainstream media was biased toward Barack Obama (they were), they have no one to blame but themselves.

The Party clearly needs to do a better job of defining themselves and also must take a serious look at some of the antiquated parts of their platform if they are to regain the trust of the American public and show that they really exist to defend the rights of individuals.

So, what will it take for the Republican Party to re-energize itself in the modern era? Ten things need to be accomplished before the GOP can climb out of its funk and re-emerge as the pragmatic leaders they once were:

1. Fiscal Responsibility

Republican Congressmen must re-establish themselves as the Party of fiscal responsibility. The ridiculous spending that occurred during the Republican-led Congressional years from 2000-2006 will not soon be forgotten.

The GOP can begin to redeem themselves in the next two years by following a simple principle: Not a single Republican should request earmarks and should oppose any piece of legislation that contains even an ounce of pork. Even if the rest of the legislation in a bill is acceptable, Republicans must loudly state their objections to it and declare that pork is the reason that it will not get their support.

2. Cut Federal Spending:

Americans are beginning to look seriously at their own budgets, making cuts to “wants” and concentrating on “needs.” Congress should be doing the same. Republicans in both the House and the Senate should lobby adamantly for cuts to federal programs that are wasting taxpayer money.

3. Communicate with the Media:

Actions don’t speak louder than words when those actions are never noticed because the words are never heard. Party members need to issue press releases and appear on any and all radio and television shows where they can show what they are doing to promote savings to taxpayers and tell the American public who is standing in the way of their efforts. I, for one, want to know which members of Congress are standing in the way of progress!

4. Learn the Power of Social Media:

The GOP has already taken the first step in communicating on the newest news medium - the Internet - by setting up the Republican For A Reason website. Although this was a good first step, the site is poorly optimized and its lack of buttons for social bookmarking shows that the Republican National Committee does not yet understand the concept.

There is no more powerful way to get your message out on the web than to promote it through hub pages and social networks. If the webmaster for the site hasn’t taken the time to set up social bookmarking buttons, it is doubtful that he/she has taken the time to perform any of the manual submission chores associated with social bookmarking, either.

5. Change the Republican Position on Abortion:

While it is important to stand firm on its position regarding partial birth abortions, the federal funding of abortions and the Born Alive Act, until the GOP axes the Human Life Amendment from their agenda, they will always be alienating over half of the US voting base.

This does not mean that Republicans shouldn’t state what they personally believe and what they would do if they or a family member was confronted with an unexpected pregnancy. It does, however, mean that the GOP needs to realize that these are highly personal decisions and that looking to overturn Roe vs. Wade will not accomplish anything other than to diminish their potential voter base.

Just as prohibition did nothing to stop the consumption of alcohol in this country, making abortions illegal would return us to the far more dangerous illegal abortions practices that occurred before Roe vs. Wade.

Instead, Republican Congressmen should concentrate their efforts on ensuring that women facing this highly emotionally decision have all the facts and alternatives available to them and that those who choose to make the unsettling choice for an abortion, have the emotional support they need and that the procedures are being performed in the safest way possible.

6. Traditional Marriage:

Again, I believe that the Republican Party has missed the boat here. A federal mandate on the definition of marriage is unnecessary and is counterproductive to the concept of a republic of people who are free to make their own decisions without federal government intervention.

States and the people who live in those states need to have the freedom to make these decisions. Each state can makes its own laws relating to this issue and whether or not they will recognize same-sex marriages that may have been legal in other states. The individual will then have the ability to choose where they want to live based upon those laws.

Why the federal government believes they need to dive into this tempest in a teapot is beyond me.

7. Fight to overturn the Kelo Decision:

An individual’s right to property is a concept originally introduced by John Locke and later refined by Thomas Paine in his book, The Rights of Man. In that book, Paine wrote, “The right to property being inviolable and sacred, no one ought to be deprived of it, except in cases of evident public necessity, legally ascertained, and on condition of just indemnity.”

When the US Supreme Court upheld the decision by the state of Connecticut’s highest court - that the government could seize individual homes and property from citizens in order to benefit the interests of a private land developer without just compensation in the form of current market value - a serious breach of trust occurred.

Sandra Day O’Connor correctly argued that the decision eliminates “any distinction between private and public use of property—and thereby effectively delete[s] the words ‘for public use’ from the Takings Clause of the Fifth Amendment.”

There was no evident public necessity for the takeover of these peoples’ homes (unless you consider a Pfizer, Inc. research facility, a pedestrian riverwalk, a state park, a U.S. Coast Guard Museum and a “small urban village” including a waterfront hotel “necessities”) nor were the former owners justly compensated for their property (unless you consider valuing the property at pre-development rates a fair estimate of a property’s value).

Until the GOP proves that the individual is more important than corporate interests, people will always be skeptical about whose rights the Party is really fighting for. The Republican Party needs to let the American public know that they will fight to reinstitute the principle of property rights that was important to our founding fathers and that they will battle to overturn the horrible precedent set by the Supreme Court in the Kelo Decision that allowed a developer to steal a person’s property.

8. Energy Independence:

The Republican Party needs to do a much better job of convincing the American public that they are willing to explore every viable form of energy that exists. While it is true that they should continue their fight to allow drilling in ANWR and off the coast of the United States, they need to show that the GOP plan involves far more than “drill here, drill now.”

The Republican Party needs to step out of the shadows and into the light, showing that they are at the forefront on alternative energy issues. Paying lip service to the concept of human involvement in global warming is not enough. There are far more important issues at hand when it comes to energy independence.

Our national security and economic survival depends on weaning ourselves off oil for our energy needs. While we are drilling for our own supplies, I would like to see a Republican panel put together that would focus entirely on funding research for wind, solar, clean coal and nuclear technologies. Forget being bipartisan here; the GOP needs to show the nation that it is the real Party of energy independence.

9. Judges:

The Republican Party needs to emphasize their belief in the US Constitution and that they will only support judges who interpret the Constitution, rather than legislate from the bench based upon their own individual beliefs. This will help to ensure that the [un]Fairness Doctrine is held as an unconstitutional Act and that our right to bear arms remains intact.

10. Less Government Means More Freedom:

The Republican Party needs to stop sending out mixed signals. If the GOP truly believes that there should be less government intervention in the lives of Americans, they cannot possibly support some of the stances listed above that restrict the freedoms of so many Americans.

Tolerance for others who are different from us is the key to social harmony and what makes the American melting pot the model for all societies. Until the Republican Party proves that they can keep their hands out of our pockets and their noses out of our lives, they will struggle to gain the acceptance of the American public at large.

Political Republican Opinion:

The time has come to get out and vote. I have done all that I can to inform readers of the facts that have not been reported in the mainstream Liberal media. For the most part, I have been preaching to the choir.

Now is not the time to stifle your voice; it is not the time to lie down and let the United States of America become transformed into a Socialist welfare state. Although it may not seem like it, your lone vote counts. Your single voice when joined by millions of other voices makes the Republican Party the most powerful choir in the world.

We can prevent a new director from taking the baton and snapping it in half. This man does not want to hear you sing; he doesn’t like our songs. He prefers “La Marsseillace” and “Das Deutschlandlied.” We can keep Barack Obama from stifling our voices, but we need to let them be heard now, more than ever before.

John McCain wound up his nomination speech at the Republican National Convention with the following words:

“I’m going to fight for my cause every day as your president. I’m going to fight to make sure every American has every reason to thank God, as I thank Him: that I’m am American, a proud citizen of the greatest country on earth, and with hard work, strong faith and a little courage, great things are always within our reach.

Fight with me. Fight with me.

Fight for what’s right for our country.

Fight for the ideals and character of a free people.

Fight for our children’s future.

Fight for justice and opportunity for all.

Stand up to defend our country from its enemies.

Stand up for each other; for beautiful, blessed, bountiful America.

Stand up, stand up, stand up and fight. Nothing is inevitable here. We’re Americans, and we never give up. We never quit. We never hide from history. We make history.”

Barack and Michelle Obama, on the other hand, have denigrated the United States of America and have expressed the shame they feel for this country on numerous occasions. From Rezko to Wright to Khalidi, from Ayers to Farrakhan to ACORN, the people they have chosen to associate with for the past twenty years shows a very clear picture of who they really are. They do not like this country. They sing a different song. As the Reverend Wright has said, “it’s not ‘God Bless America’ … no, no, no … it’s ‘GOD DAMN AMERICA.’”

John McCain has fought for this country; he loves this country and sings its praises every day. It is time to join McCain and let his song be heard. We can fix the broken things in this country. We can right the few wrongs. The fundamentals of the United States of America are strong and have made it the greatest country in the world since its beginning.

That strength starts with you. The mainstream Liberal media has tried to convince you to stay home, that the race is already lost. They have told you that the Republicans will lose all of their vacating seats to Democrats and that a super majority is going to happen in the US Congress. They have told you that Barack Obama has already won.

Don’t let the biased media fool you! The fat lady is sleeping off her last big meal. It’s time to let your voice be heard. It’s time to vote, not just for John McCain, but for every single Republican on the ballot. We have the numbers. We can claim this country back!

Now that it’s back in the news because the Republican ticket has finally decided to pull the mask off of the robot, Barack Obama, it is time to explore briefly, not the Reverend Wright himself, but the racism of Black Liberation Theology, the religion taught at Trinity United Church of Christ, Obama’s church of twenty years.

Barack Obama was introduced to God by the Reverend Jeremiah Wright; a man the presidential hopeful has at times called a spiritual guide and a mentor. “I could no sooner disown this man than I could the black community … these people are a part of me and they are part of America,” Obama said in a celebrated March ’08 speech, denouncing racism in America. It is an interesting choice of words; not because weeks later Barack Obama would disown Reverend Wright and leave the church, but because he admits how much a part of him that the church is and because of the words “black community” that Obama chose to use.

Sean Hannity interviewed Rev. Wright March 1, 2008, a couple of weeks before the grandiose Obama speech. During the interview, the esteemed Reverend became incensed when Hannity questioned the teachings of the church and how it all centered on only helping blacks. “Do you know black theology?,” Reverend Wright asked Hannity. “How many of Cone’s books have you read? … How many books of Dwight Hopkins’ have you read?,” he continued. The unanswered question, of course, was “none.” Who are these people that Reverend Wright spoke of? They were, in Wrights words, founders of the theology that evolved in the 60’s.

James Cone is a professor at Union Theological Seminary in New York and probably the world’s foremost proponent of black theology. In an article in the Asia Times, James Cone is attributed with quoting from William R. Jones essay entitled “Divine Racism: The Unacknowledged Threshold Issue for Black Theology.” The quote is as follows:

“Black theology refuses to accept a God who is not identified totally with the goals of the black community. If God is not for us and against white people, then he is a murderer, and we had better kill him. The task of black theology is to kill Gods who do not belong to the black community … Black theology will accept only the love of God which participates in the destruction of the white enemy. What we need is the divine love as expressed in Black Power, which is the power of black people to destroy their oppressors here and now by any means at their disposal. Unless God is participating in this holy activity, we must reject his love.”

In Black Theology and Black Power, David Cone wrote:

“For white people, God’s reconciliation in Jesus Christ means that God has made black people a beautiful people; and if they are going to be in relationship with God, they must enter by means of their black brothers, who are a manifestation of God’s presence on earth.

The assumption that one can know God without knowing blackness is the basic heresy of the white churches. They want God without blackness, Christ without obedience, love without death.

What they fail to realize is that in America, God’s revelation on earth has always been black, red, or some other shocking shade, but never white. Whiteness, as revealed in the history of America, is the expression of what is wrong with man. It is a symbol of man’s depravity.

God cannot be white even though white churches have portrayed him as white. When we look at what whiteness has done to the minds of men in this country, we can see clearly what the New Testament meant when it spoke of the principalities and powers. To speak of Satan and his powers becomes not just a way of speaking but a fact of reality. When we can see a people who are controlled by an ideology of whiteness, then we know what reconciliation must mean. The coming of Christ means a denial of what we thought we were. It means destroying the white devil in us. Reconciliation to God means that white people are prepared to deny themselves (whiteness), take up the cross (blackness) and follow Christ (black ghetto).”

Dwight N. Hopkins is a professor of theology at the University of Chicago’s Divinity School and a member of Trinity United Church of Christ. In Being Human: Race, Culture and Religion, Hopkins wrote:

“The spirituality of white supremacy was crafted out of American history and created into something new in the United States. This spirituality burst forth from materiality but transcends each individual white person and subsequent white generations. It is immanent and immediate and lives on across time and is fed by its own rapacious internal drive from more power, privileges, and perks. Consequently, to be sane in America is to simply agree that white people’s perpetual position at the top of the racial hierarchy is normal. Of course, only the mad would dispute this assertion. . .

Now that U.S. white supremacist spirituality is the sole imperialist superpower across the earth, under the sea, and in space, one can feel immediately its unchecked performance in the Third World and even in its unilateral operations independent of its (supposedly) European allies’ wishes.”

In Barack Obama’s own words, these people are a part of him, a part of who he is. He sat in this racist church for twenty years and never thought about leaving. Barack Obama and his wife Michelle (who incidentally has commented about her disdain for America on numerous occasions) are adults. They may very well be able to separate the racist teachings from whatever spiritual message the church may convey. Their children are young and impressionable, however. To subject them to this kind of separatist rhetoric is irresponsible as parents and as patriots.

If we are to believe that the Obamas do not adhere to the racist teachings of the Black Theology Religion, we can only conclude that the sole reason they continued to attend the church, was to advance their political aspirations in the black community. Either way, they are lying to somebody!

Political Republican Opinion:

The Obama campaign is preparing to roll out a new line of “faith merchandise” in an effort to win over religious voters. Pandering to what is normally considered to be a Republican stronghold, the Obama campaign is coming out with an entire line of apparel, bumper stickers, pins and signs designed to appeal to those with strong religious beliefs.

“Believers for Barack,” “Pro-Family, Pro-Obama” and “Catholics for Obama” merchandise will be rolled out first with merchandise for other religious groups and denominations coming soon, according to Obama Deputy Director of Religious Affairs, Paul Monteiro. According to Beliefnet, “Clergy for Change” and “Pro-Israel, Pro-Obama” merchandise will soon be offered, as well.

Both campaigns have been making a major push for the Catholic vote. With the exception of Al Gore’s unsuccessful bid for the White House in 2000, Presidential candidates winning the Catholic vote have won the election in every presidential race since 1976.

The Political Republican Opinion blog can only wonder how this sits with non-believers, the majority of whom have allegiances to the Democratic Party. It also seems like a move that is counter to the pro-choice and gay rights stances, long supported by the Democratic Party.

Will there also be a line with the slogans “Born Alive, Born to Die,” “Pro-Palestine, Pro-Obama” and “Muslims for Obama”?

Once again, Obama is straddling the fence, refusing to choose a side by trying to give the appearance of being for both sides of an issue. The Political Republican Opinion blog can only wonder if Barack Obama will be able to make any decisions as President without taking the Nation’s pulse first.

The Political Republican:

After witnessing the about-faces that Barack Obama has done on virtually every political issue since becoming the presumptive Democratic Party’s Presidential nominee, The Political Republican can only wonder whether Mr. Obama will really make good on his promise to get his daughters a dog.

According to ABC News, the Obama family has “used the promise of a pet as a bargaining chip in asking their daughters, Malia, 9 and Sasha, 7, for their support during the long campaign season. Really? Obama’s own daughters won’t support him unless he gets them a dog? Thank goodness his girls are not of voting age or Senator Obama could be charged with attempting to buy votes!

During a May appearance on “Good Morning America,” the Obamas were asked whether their two daughters had yet to receive the dog they were promised. Barack replied that Malia and Sasha have “a year to test whether they are sufficiently responsible,” but was cut off by his wife who insisted, “They are … we’re getting a dog!.” When Barack Obama expressed concern over who would be in charge of walking the dog, Michelle Obama snapped, you will!“

Hmmm, it appears that Michelle Obama may be following in Hillary Clinton’s footsteps, planning to be the real decision maker in the White House (The Political Republican Opinion just hopes Barack is better at keeping his pants on than Bill was). Let’s also look at Barack Obama’s actual statement to the morning television program. Like he has done on all of the important political issues, the senator has used qualifiers in his “promise” that would enable him to wriggle out of the bargain. Will the little girls really be getting a dog?

To further complicate matters, the Obama girls have allergies and a dog may not be in their best interests. The American Kennel Club is trying to help out with this and have offered the following suggestion on hypoallergenic breeds: the Bichon Frise, the Chinese Crested, the Poodle, the Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier and the Miniature Schnauzer.

If Obama’s recent comments in Berlin that America has “made [its] share of mistakes and there are times when our actions around the world have not lived up to our best intentions” are any indication, he may sidle up further to the Germans and go for the schnauzer – a good German dog that’s all bark and no bite. If he’s lucky, he might be able to pick up an abused schnauzer that seems so apologetic, that it pees itself whenever the slightest disapproval is shown. A German Sheppard would be too strong. A poodle might make the French happy, though.

Maybe Barack Obama will risk the hell from Michelle and decide that his daughters have not passed the test, offering to provide them with another pet, instead. Will he be sensitive to the girls’ allergies and get a hairless cat or will he make a futile attempt at showing the Middle East that he is on their side and ride up to the White House on a camel?

The Political Republican thinks that Barack Obama will simply withdraw to his shell and hide when it comes time to make the decision. Wait a minute … that’s it, he’ll give them a turtle!
